Be confident! The ultimate guide to finding fitting jewelry

Ever wondered why celebrities look amazing wearing any kind of jewelry? It’s not their celebrity status, and it’s not the brand of jewelry they’re wearing (well, sometimes). What sets them apart from the crowd is the knowledge about themselves, or an amazing image consultant.

One of the first things I’ve noticed when someone walks into the store is that most don’t know what they’re looking for. It’s not so easy when you have hundreds if not thousands of different pieces to look at; add the fact that a lot of people don’t know what looks good on them, and you have a recipe for someone who will spend hours looking and not finding.

To make the most out of your time, it’s better to shop once you know what you’re looking for, or at least have an idea of what looks good on you. I will list a few things you need to have in consideration when shopping for yourself; it will help you identify your features and find that perfect piece to achieve that perfect look you deserve.

Three of the most important things to take into consideration when it comes to shopping for jewelry are looks, taste, and occasion. I suggest you write your answers down somewhere to review them now and then, since I’ll be uploading content related to your specific answers in the following days.

According to looks:

Let’s start with your face shape; your face shape determines the type of earrings and necklaces you should be wearing. Look at the following picture and look at one of your pictures to compare. Which of the images does your face shape resemble the most?

Options:

  1. Diamond shape
  2. Square shape
  3. Oval shape
  4. Circle shape
  5. Triangle shape
  6. Heart shape

All right, now that we know your face shape, let’s look at your hands, since they determine the size/type of rings (width mostly) you should be wearing. Choose one of the following that matches your hands.

  1. Long and thick fingers
  2. Long and thin fingers
  3. Short and thick fingers
  4. Short and thin fingers

Next in line is your body shape. Your body shape (height and width) will determine the type and size of jewelry that looks better on you. Choose one of the following that matches your body shape:

  1. Tall and slim
  2. Tall and plump
  3. Short and slim
  4. Short and plump

Now that we have that covered, let’s look at our skin tone. Skin tone for jewelry matters but not as much as with makeup, since most colors you’ll be matching are yellow, white, and rose. Choose one of the following that matches (roughly) your skin tone:

  1. Light (From pale to light)
  2. Medium (Natural tan)
  3. Dark (Dark brown and darker)

According to taste:

Taste plays a big role in all our choices in life. From choosing what to eat from a menu to choosing our next house. It will also play a big role in the type of jewelry you choose to wear. While everyone could say something looks amazing, if you don’t feel “it’s you”, you will simply not wear it.

Choose your type of taste from the following (or as close as possible):

You consider yourself a/an _____________ type of person:

  1. Elegant (You look/talk formal and almost always dress up)
  2. Casual (You wear an everyday look and sometimes dress up)
  3. Trendy (You almost always follow fashion trends)
  4. Flamboyant (You want everyone to notice when you enter a room)
  5. Discreet (You don’t like to draw attention but pay attention to detail)

According to occasion:

Sometimes taste and occasion might oppose each other. If you’re a casual person and seldom dress up, but you have a wedding coming soon, you might have to turn formal for a night. In this case I present three choices:

  1. Everyday wear:
    • Most people I’ve helped select their jewelry are looking for pieces they can wear daily. This is the case with more expensive jewelry that you want to use as much as possible to justify the cost.
  2. Semi-formal wear:
    • Choose this category if you like to dress up often. You will need versatile jewelry that can go from casual to “I have a meeting/event at night”.
  3. Formal wear:
    • Choose this category if you dress formal most of the time or your job requires you to. In the case of the former, discreet and elegant is the winner. In the case of the latter, options are limited but discreet and comfortable jewelry is recommended.

Hope that didn’t take too long! But now that we know what we’re working with, we can choose according to our taste and narrow down the options available. I will be updating the blog with information tailored for your specific choices. Keep checking for updates!
